The BG&BRG Schwechat (BGS) is a high school in secondary education, with about 950 pupils in the age from 10 to 18 years are attending the school. They are taught by about 80 teachers in 36 classes. The school is situated in Schwechat, which is a town with about 15 000 inhabitants, very close to Vienna. The BGS offers two kinds of educations: (a) the so called Realgymasium, which has an emphasis on natural science lessons such as geometry, biology, chemistry and physics and (b) the so called Gymnasium with an emphasis on humanistic syllabus and foreign languages e.g. English, French and Spain. The pupils finish the school with the so called Matura, which gives them the right to attend a University. The school has a modern infrastructure with special classrooms for informatics (4), physics (2), biology, chemistry and music. BGS was one of the first Austrian schools in secondary education being connected to the internet. Students are familiar with the usage of the internet and the possibilities of this medium. Since 1997 BGS has been partner in many European projects. During the last 8 years about 250 pupils and about 15 teachers of the BGS had the possibility to work in European projects. The aim of many of these projects is, to bring modern technologies in the classrooms, which fits very good with the school profile of the BGS. In 2003 the BGS has been invited from the Austrian Ministry of Education in a cooperation, to present the experiences of the school in European projects to other schools in Austria, on fairs of education and during workshops.
BGS will serve as one of the two pilot schools, and will use Organic.Edunet during the pilot trials. Results will be collected and reported from the pupils and teachers of the school, as soon as the pilots are completed.
